From revolutionary materials and innovative techniques, to new regulations and greener benchmarks, sustainability in development has come a long way. And not a moment too soon…
Greening our designs has become a major priority for architects and developers around the world. In fact, the recent 2018 National Architecture Awards had a whole sector dedicated to sustainable architecture, with a core focus on natural ventilation and daylight.
Here at Wesley Place, our sustainable strategies not only make a difference in the current development landscape, but also preserve our cities for future generations.
Standards, skyscrapers and Green Stars
Sustainability is a priority at Wesley Place. From smarter energy choices and natural green spaces to innovative tech and community projects, Charter Hall will help improve sustainability in our precinct for years to come.
Over at the premium-grade 130 Lonsdale office tower, we’re targeting 6-Star Green Star design and As-Built v1.1 rating, 5-Star NABERS ratings, and registration to pursue WELL certification. At completion, the Wesley Place precinct in its entirety will boast a minimum of 5-Star NABERS Energy rating and all assets will be pursuing WELL certification.
But we’re not only evolving to meet regulatory standards. Our tenants are changing their habits – choosing more sustainable forms of transport, demanding more sustainable, modern amenities, and working together towards a greener future. In fact, the City of Melbourne’s recent census showed that over 16% of vehicles travelling into the CBD during peak hours are bicycles.
To meet the evolving needs of the modern workforce, Charter Hall is integrating world-class End-of-Trip facilities in all of our workplaces. We’ll accommodate those workers who are cycling or walking to work with lockers, showers and adequate bike storage.
Clean, green and tree-lined
For Romilly Madew, CEO of the Green Building Council of Australia:
"A more sustainable property or community will ultimately create a better outcome for both them as businesses but more importantly the communities they build for"
With one of only five beautifully curated green spaces in Melbourne’s CBD, Wesley Place won’t just contribute to the city’s sustainability goals. As explored in our previous article, the precinct will boast a thriving natural environment, with a green square, greenery-filled outdoor terraces on 130’s upper levels, and space for a multitude of plants and trees to breathe life (and oxygen) into the precinct.
We look forward to welcoming tenants, congregations, local residents and visitors alike to a flourishing Wesley Place – one that will contribute positively to our environment and stay thriving for generations to come!
